If you have ever driven through Columbus Junction, Iowa, you may have stopped off at the Swinging Bridge, a historic site that dates back to 1886. The original bridge, referred to as “Lovers Leap Bridge,” was built over a ravine 80 feet deep so that the residents on Fourth St. could get to Third St. and the downtown area without having to walk many blocks around the deep ravine. The second building of the bridge was a suspension style on cables and thus it became known as the “Swinging Bridge”. Yes, the bridge does sway (as much as you want it to)! The bridge has been updated throughout the years and in the last few years you can see it glow at night when it is lit up with lights.
All proceeds from the festival benefit the Historic Swinging Bridge maintenance fund. Come spend the day with us (and find out why the bridge was originally called “Lover’s Leap Bridge”)!
For questions regarding the festival or to sign up as a vendor call 319-325-5063 or email Melanie DeVore, Event Organizer, at email@example.com.
