United Fund of Columbus Junction will kick off their 2014 fund drive with the annual Chili Taste-off at the Columbus Junction Farmers Market on Friday, October 11. Area non-profit organizations are invited to bring a crock pot of chili for sampling as well as information about their organization to share. A two-dollar donation to United Fund buys unlimited sampling privileges and one vote for the Taster’s Choice honor. Donations will be split among participating organizations. The winning group will take home the Silver Ladle traveling trophy which is currently held by Louisa County Habitat for Humanity who won last year with a recipe prepared by Paula Buckman. Sampling begins at 4:30, voting closes at 5:30. October 11 will be the last farmers market of 2013.
