Current projections for flooding are holding steady at 26 feet, which would have little to no affect on the city. However, rain more than 24 hours into the future could alter that scenario. The city is preparing for water higher than 26′, just in case something were to raise it more. The levees and road are currently at 28 feet, and dirt is being moved on top of the levees as we speak, to raise them to a temporary height of 31 feet. Large sandbags are also being moved into standby that would raise the level of Highway 92 to 31 feet, as well.
There is no need to evacuate if you are in the flood plain at this time, but prepare in case the situation changes.
