Information Regarding Potential Flooding

This morning, city employees and council members met to discuss potential flooding in Columbus Junction. Current projections are well below that of the 2008 flood, but the city is doing its best to be prepared for any and all scenarios. We added 3,000 sandbags to our stores a couple weeks ago in anticipation of high water levels, and currently have local high school students helping fill them.

The Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service estimates water levels will peak at 24.6 feet at this time, below the Iowa’s peak at the end of April, but many factors, including how open the spillway is at Coralville Lake, and upcoming rains could alter the prediction.
